If you have purchased a new home, you are most likely excited about the new adventures you will soon be experiencing with your family. Involving your children when you move is a great way for them to make memories they will remember years in the future. Here are some ideas you can use to help get your children involved with the moving process.
Allow Your Children To Decorate Personal Boxes Of Items
One fun way for your children to get into the moving experience is by packing up their personal items to bring along. Ask local grocery and liquor stores for empty boxes to use for packing purposes. They often have several extra boxes they do not mind giving to customers for free. Purchase a cheap set of markers or crayons for your children to use to decorate the boxes they will be using for their own items. They can draw pictures of the items that are to be contained inside—which can also help them locate their boxes when they get to the new home.
Consider Giving Unwanted Items To A Charity Group
When it comes time to pack, unloading unnecessary items is desirable beforehand so that they don't have to be moved with you. Involve your children in the process by having them look through their belongings to select some that they no longer use. Let your children know these toys and books will be going to less fortunate children. Your own children may feel proud to pass on some of their toys to others who will be appreciative to have them. Designate a plastic storage container as a collection bin for these items and bring your children along with you when you deliver the contents to a charity group.
Make A Memory Scrapbook Of The Old Home
Purchase a few throwaway cameras or allow your children to borrow your cell phone to take pictures of the different stages of the moving process as it happens. They can take pictures of rooms in the home with the furniture and personal belongings still in place and then take pictures of the same rooms when the contents are boxed up and ready for the move. Pictures of the belongings being placed on a moving truck will also serve as a delightful memory for the future. Camera film can be developed or pictures on a cell phone can be printed after getting to the new home. They can then be placed in a scrapbook for your children to look back on their former home so that it is not forgotten.

Traveling all over the world for work often puts me in the lurch; what do I do with all of my belongings? Having a home or an apartment to come home to is great, but if I'm hardly at home, an apartment or mortgage is really not worth it. Thankfully, if I want to move my stuff with me, there are moving companies that will help me pack everything up and put what I don't want and need into storage. I can even ship boxes of my things all the way around the globe, which is a plus when work relocates me for more than a year.
